Back in the late 90s, when I was deep into the Star Trek Collectible
Card Game world, one of the projects I was doing on Decipher's Bulletin
Boards was a massive set of dream cards under the banner "AtoZ" (with
respect to Mr. Atoz of "All Our Yesterdays"). Essentially, I took the
Star Trek Encyclopedia and attempted to create an ST CCG dream card for
every entry, unless the character or concept already had a card, and I
think at the time, Decipher didn't have access to TOS and the movies, so
those seem to be excluded as well. I got to the middle of the M's,
which accounts for thousands of cards. But the thing, see, is that none
of those cards had graphics. They were all just text-based.
Recently,
I reconnected with the ST CCG community, some of them working with the
Continuing Committee, which is still making new cards. They hooked me up
with excellent templates from which to bring dream cards to life. And
so I've gone back to my notes and started turning AtoZ into graphics. I
am NOT editing them based on cards produced later (officially or by the
Committee), just crafting them as they were whenever I made them (I
think somewhere between 1998 and 2002). Felt like a fun little project to trickle out weekly on my Blog of Geekery, but it soon got out of hand and I was so ahead that the project needed its own space. This is its own space, and cards will come out more frequently, on a daily basis most of the time.
The "expansions" were, as the Encyclopedia was, ordered alphabetically, starting with the A's, which I called Apocalypse Rising. You'll find it tagged in the blog labels, along with favorite characters and ships, and more importantly, rules for new card types so they can easily be found. There was also an Enhanced Apocalypse Rising based on a new edition of the Encyclopedia, and I might also want to do "Broken Links" for each expansion since there are an awful lot of cards I never got to. But I'm getting ahead of myself here. Let's jump into the entries.
THE ENTRIES:
[1] 'audet IX
[2] A-koo-chee-moya
[3] A.F.
[4] Aaron, Admiral
[5] "Abandoned, The"
[1] To score the points, the ship must do nothing but fly to that other mission. If it counter-attacks during the flight, it must return to 'audet IX to reattempt the mission. Source: "The Child". It seems the proper spelling, according to the script is 'aucdet IX - the Encyclopedia had it wrong.
[2] Medicine Bundle showed up later in AtoZ, but I never got to Vision Quest.
[3] A quick and dirty image. I'm not going to be precious about the art when it's a reference without a visual.
[4] An attempt at a Bluegill, given Infiltration rules, but before they were in the game.
[5] This refers to DS9 Episode #52. {The plot: "On Stardate 48214.5, Jem'Hadar baby was discovered on Deep Space 9 which grew at an alarming rate into a warrior, genetically programmed to kill.")
So those are the first five. See you next week for more?
Cards: Medical Collection, A-koo-chee-moya, Academy Romance, Admiral Aaron, The Abandoned
